I WILL cut you

So this happened a couple of weeks ago. But I thought you should know that I boned an entire pork leg, using just THIS.

Very impressive, no? Perhaps this is the visual mantra I will use whilst walking down the red carpet tonight.

Julia, this has little to do with your last comment. I saw the movie-loved it! It got me wanting to learn more about you and Julia Child, as well as possibly learning French cooking. Better idea, you send me the frozen leftovers! J/k, have fun!

I just finished listening to your audio book on my IPOD. I am stuck at a boring conference and your story has made my time in Minneapolis enjoyable.

By the way I love this picture. You are like a cooking female warrior.

You are truly an inspiration for me to start cooking again. I have a huge library of cookbooks which I occasionally dump on the floor when I decide to cook something marvelous. I insist on having way to many courses for my dinner parties and taking a week to look through every cookbook to pair the perfect dishes. I haven't held a dinner party since last year when I caught my gourmet toast on fire (had four inch flames which continued to burn in my oven for over 5 minutes when my husband came out and threw the whole cookie sheet in the sink - who knew butter could burn so long) because I violated my first rule of cooking...keep everyone out of the kitchen.

I have always been an on-again off-again cook but you have inspired me to get back into the kitchen. Thank you!

I just finished reading your book this morning and imagine my surprise when I found out it wasn't fiction.WOW! You must have had a lot of fortitude to last a whole year. I found myself getting downright weary just reading about your exploits in the kitchen. Good luck on the premier...I just hope they don't sweeten up your character too much.

Just remember a woman who can make aspic and de-bone a pork leg with just a little knife is capable of handling walking down a carpet to see a movie. You'll be fine.

there are signs here that things are going south. your knife is missing a rather significant portion. add that to the "don't f... with the chef" apron thingy and i'm starting to think you've done in a few humans along the way. tell me it's not so and that the road to fame is paved in lemon drops.

Just stumbled across your blog. I'm going out looking for the book tomorrow and can't wait for the film to be out.

Can you point me in the direction of your original blog that chronicled your Julie/Julia project I can't seem to find it anywhere?

Julie, I read your book when it first came out and am excited to the movie! I have also made the escape from my day job and view you as a total inspiration. You see...I too want to write in my pajamas. I felt a total connection to you when at the end of the book it said you now write in your pajamas. Seeing you make it happen gives me hope that it can happen for me as well even though I really do not know how to begin. I am working on a novel but need freelance work in between as I now have zero income, only a dream.

I have to tell you that I read your book and I never heard of anyone trying to make "Quail in Rose Petal Sauce"...I absolutely understand the correlation between good food cooked for someone you love and sex (even liver)...anyway, just wanted to let you know that I thought your book was great and good for you that you get to write in your jams & hang out with your dog.
Take care and have a great day

Those ceramic knives are pricey. I'm pretty sure Kyocera will replace it if you send it back to them.

"You talkin' to me? YOU TALKIN' TO ME? I don't see any other writer/butchers around here, so you MUST be talkin' to me."

It's the "fuck you and the horse you rode in on" look in your eyes that I truly love.

Love the photo. Is that a ceramic knife? Those are awesome. I only use those for boning chicken.

BTW, are you a fan of Alton Brown? ("Good Eats" on the Food Network) Every time I watch that show, I learn an incredible amount. He doesn't get into recipes, but instead into methodology - which always helps me more than a new recipe does. I wanna know about why my _____ (fill in the blank) always comes out tasting like ____, and he seems to help me become a better cook by understanding chemistry, flavors, textures, etc, better.

Hey Julie,

I seen the movie. It was great! I am a 27 year old woman that has never cooked. I am married and have 2 kids. Hubby does all the cooking. You gave me the inspiration to start.
One day at a time...lol

Thank you,
DS
